Thanks for your publication
I especially enjoy the articles on stress relief.

I am new to meditation and found it to be a great stress reliever.
I recently read that in the USA that that stress is a factor in more than 75% of sickness. I am learning more everyday about yoga and meditation and have had no shortage of material to read.

One challenge I have found is to calm down and sit still. I came across this meditation stool called the FreeChair and wonder if anyone has had any experience with that? (www.youtube.com/watch?v=duhAZggFr5I).

It is this floor level stool that allows the user to find a good sitting position. I thought if I could get more comfortable I might meditate longer and enjoy it more.
What do you think?

Thanks for the article

Dear Ananda Family: I loved reading this article from Master. It was sooo good to read that after a stressful day at work. I know that even though I do my best to stay aligned with my spiritual truth, sometimes my humanity or the humanity of others hooks me and I am not as centered nor affirmative as I would like to be. Being more aware of how being nervous is so hard on one's nerves makes so much sense. I am sure that I have fried mine over the years. I am delighted to hear that they can be restored. But before I ask for help restoring them... I want to do what Master suggested.

Thank you so much, Namaste, Barb Walley

I am very thankful for all of these inspiring ressources.
Surfing the web sometimes gets me so tangled up in unnecessary stuff, but as I come here I feel immediately more focused and attuned again.
Thanks again and many blessings from across the sea :)

This is great practical advice. Master has such wisdom. I have just been reading about some of these factors in a book about making a good brain great. Mixing this with yoga meditation is a powerful combination. Thanks

Thanks dr van houten; this is a valuable summary and interpretation of a huge amount of research just now hitting the popular press. Work like this helps show just how the mind-body connection works - is there a way to participate in scientific measurement of kriya training?

Thanks,

Dear Eric,

In the book Nayaswami Kriyananda does not make Tyaga dependent on celibacy, only that the couple be committed to gradually decreasing the level of sexual activity. Celibacy is expected of couples that become nayaswamis but not tyagis. I hope this is helpful.

Joy to you,

Dear Hridaya. Thank you for sharing such an important event with us. Your interpretation was inspiring. I often ask myself why an individual's karma deems they must leave this consciousness so early in their journey. But then I realise it is my lack of insight that assumes their journey is "early". From all accounts (yours and the comments of those who also knew Johnny), his was a candle that burned brightly from day one. He seemed to have illuminated the lives of so many in such a short span of time. I am writing this from Australia, and I can tell you that through your words, he has also illuminated my life. After I read your article, I sat down for quite some time and prayed and thought and meditated and felt. Then I went and hugged my children. You and your family have suffered a grievous loss, but you have touched our lives with your sincerity. Words often provide little consolation, so we are sending you and your family hugs through the cosmic beloved.

Dear Daniella,

What a beautiful story. I've lived in an Ananda community for over 10 years and sometimes it's easy to forget the pain-filled world outside. Before I found Ananda, I worked as a visiting nurse and often had to deal with tragic, abused, angry, and even violent patients or family members particularly in the slums of East and West Oakland. I'd have given anything to have the powerful tools we have in these teachings to have been better able to help those patients. I didn't know the word "mantra" but I often recited the words of Christ, over and over to myself, "When you've done it unto to the least of these my brethren, you've done it unto me." Mother Teresa described her work in the Calcutta slums, as seeing the distressing disguise of Jesus, in the sick and dying. Through your experiences you have shown a deep and spiritual way we can help and even heal those who are suffering.

Thank you for writing your story and sharing it with all of us.

so much joy in Master,
miriam

This is an excellent article, especially from someone who has also led the married life. It helps us who are also householders. I read something similar from Yogananda in a speech he made in the early thirties. It has proved very helpful.

I applaud Nayaswami Kriyanda for proposing a new order of renunciates. Indeed very welcome and timely in this age. I have a question which centers around the subject of brahmacharya, meaning: "walking in Brahma", or "walking in the creative force of God". Brahmacharya is commonly translated to mean celibacy, but is not by every one understood to mean only that. The preservation and cultivation of the creative life force, the sexual energy, can either be in celibacy or in tantric sexual relations. Both modes of behaviour I have been taught produce the same outcome, for both involve preservation and cultivation of sexual energy upward into the divine processes rising in the nervous system through advanced yoga practices. For obvious reasons Yogananda advocated celibacy for his unmarried renunciates, but it is less clear why the same holds true for disciples who are married or in a stable, loving relationship. Obviously both modes of behaviour carry risks and require great discipline, but it appears to me that the tantric sexual path is the more natural path to follow for a married couple in a stable, loving relationship.
I have been a practitioner of yoga and meditation for nearly forty years and lately have been attracted to follow the sublime teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, and join his order of disciples. I love God and seek to know Him more deeply. I seek human perfection through the path of yoga. That is why I welcomed the new renunciates order. However regretfully I see that I do not qualify since my wife and I would have to observe celibacy as members of the Tyagi order. The likely consequences of that remind me of a comment I read on the web by a married woman who stated: "I hate the Self Realization Fellowship since it has destroyed my marriage". [Because of its rules on sexual behaviour.]
I am sure that Nayaswami Kriyananda must has carefully considered and sought guidance re. this controversial subject matter. But a discussion about the two meanings of brahmacharya and why a loving couple following the tantric path of brahmacharya is disqualified to join the new order would be helpful.
Sincerely,
Eric Elbers.

Dear Daniella,
Thank you for sharing your insights and wisdom. I was particularly struck by your well stated intention, "to transfer your clients' pain and suffering to God where it belongs". I work as a social worker with disadvantaged, often impoverished, individuals and often over burden myself (and eventually burn out) when I "forget" to pray. Thank you for the reminder. I desperately needed to hear/read that today. God bless you in your service.
Warmly,
Muriel Percy

Dear Daniella,
Thanks so much for your inspiring message and story. You are talking about the kind of spirituality where the rubber meets the road...dealing with everyday tough life situations. I applaud your willingness to take on clients and situations that most people would naturally shy away from. That to me takes courage.

I live at the Ananda Portland community. It is great to read how others on this path are bringing their spirituality "into the trenches."

Thanks again!

Namaste,
Bill Grady

I feel this part very interesting:
"One’s concentration, in other words, is on the joy of soul-freedom in God.The real delusion to overcome is the bondage of ego-identity Freedom from ego-consciousness, therefore, is the primary direction I envision for true renunciation.I state urgently that mankind very desperately needs our new renunciate order"

Thank you for the article "Understanding Illness". I especially found the following helpful - transferring the power at the point between the eyebrows to the whole brain.

"To scour the seeds of past sickness from the brain cells, you must transfer the power of concentration felt at the point between the eyebrows and the peace feeling of the body, to the brain. This impregnates the brain cells with peace and power, and modifies their chemical and psychological composition."

Dear Daniella,

Thanks for sharing the experience you had about the disappointing tenant. As I was reading it, I thought that everything was going to turn out well at the end. My train of thought brought me to the same conclusions you arrived (hurt and disappointment). It was inspiring to see how you handled it afterwards.

I feel like I've said this before, but it is so nice having such a wealth of back material online. It makes this an extraordinary research for people who are inspired by Yogananda and his teachings! Worth sharing with anyone.

This is something I have kept to myself for many years - I've spoken of it to only a few of those closest to me.
In 1971 I was working in a shipyard, welding large steel fabricated sections. The piece I was working on weighed 17 tons.
At one point I had to have the piece turned over by a crane. I connected the chains from the crane to the piece but when I was in between the front of the crane and the piece someone, not seeing me, gave the cranedriver the signal to lift.
As the 17 ton piece came up it swung into the front of the crane. I was side on to it; it struck me and started crushing me.
I felt a massive pain for a moment as my ribcage was being crushed. Suddenly the pain disappeared. A penetrating and universal light illuminated a vast universe made up, at one and the same time, the most vast universes and the most small molecules and atoms. All was suffused with a sound which I could only describe as music although I have heard no orchestra on earth play like it. For me it was the most beautiful, peacful and joyous place - a pure delight.
At some point a question was asked: "Is it complete?" I knew that what was being referred to was my life. I knew that if I answered Yes, then I could stay here in this wonderful place. However, I also knew that if I replied Yes, I would not be telling the truth. I answered No.
Those witnessing the event describe what happened next:
"You just flapped your arms and pushed the steel box from off you. You then danced out turning circles."
I came to leaning against a wall surrounded by five or six workmates asking "Are you OK?"
Later, at the hospital, it was found that all I had suffered was stripping the skin from the outside of both arms and three fractured ribs.
We do have a role to play in the time of our going.

Dear Hridaya, What beautiful advice for anyone who has lost someone near and dear. To be able to attune to the departed one through nature or however God comes is such a comfort. We forget the simple realities you mention here--the strength that comes, the signs that come to let you know your loved one is in God's arms etc. I think many will be helped and uplifted by your words. Thank you and God bless you, Dhyana

Thank you, Ananta, for sharing your thoughts on what it means to live in peace and harmony. As always, I particularly enjoyed experiencing your vibration of great love and deep faith in God. Thank you, too, for all the years of being a role model for selflessly manifesting God's love in practical ways.

I am eagerly waiting for your new book. I had to think about the comparison of pagan versus Roman Catholic spirituality at that time. There is no doubt that the Norman invasion forever changed the British isles. Our commitment to intentional communities is once again brought to us by Swami Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda. Thanks so much for your insight.

This line:
"Just love God and let come whatever may. Don’t love God because you think it’s a sneaky way of getting all your desires fulfilled."

I probably am taking this in a different direction, however I do love God because it is a sneaky way to get all my desires fulfilled. Anything to slide past the ego is fair game as far as I can tell.

I last saw Johnny, then named Janaka when he was about eight years old. It was outside of Master's Market. I asked him, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" He said: "I just want to play in the grass." He really was just in the moment. A wonderful child.

Its beautiful , scary but even then its true.Once i had a dream i was a soldier in helicopter and all of sudden being shot at forehead,The experience of death might be micro seconds, but it appeared long to me.I thought the moment the bullet hit me i will be in lots of pain, instead of pain i saw my consciousness leaving my body and all of sudden i felt so much of joys which i haven't experienced in real life. The feeling cannot be described. I really wonder if that world has so much of joys why we are back. Also i really think most soldier will have same experience of joy and bliss if they die in battle field

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of you son Johnny. I might have met him when we lived at Ananda years ago. I do remember you and your lovely spirit.

We lost our first born son, Toby, nine years ago at age 20yrs, suddenly and tragically. Your words about the opportunity of these experiences to further grow in love and Spirit are the correct focus. Thjs focus gives us hope and leads us out of the labrynth of pain and despair.

Please continue give your self permission to continue to take care of yourself as you heal. You are witness to miracles and opportunities for your own transformation and that of others who surround you!

If I can offer support to you in any way, please let us me know!

Thank you for sharing this painful experience and showing us how it can help one to grow deeper and stronger in spiritual faith. I am forwarding it to a friend experiencing grief.
This article was so beautiful and touching to me. Thank you for bringing me back to basics again. I find I slowly get distracted with "life" sometimes and need a little nudge back. I could really relate to the story of the woman at the bank. Even though I have not experienced that type situation, I think everyone can relate to putting our "balance" to the test in challenging situations.

Also, I love the new look of Clarity. Very streamlined and easy to navigate. Great job!

A beautiful expression of your soul's journey, Hridaya. Your generous sharing is invaluable. I had the privilege of being Johnny's landlord "mother" for a year filled of joy owing to his presence. His laugh, smile, a cap pushed backward on his head, a sleepy look as he headed out the door of the house to see who was making the noise at the pump house, and not least of all his deep friendships with those around him. For his immediate family I pray that you gain sustenance forever more from Johnny's capacity to love and appreciate. They are his greatest gifts to us.

I read this article at a critical hour when I was filled with fear and condemnation. It speaks to my heart at this time when I am away from my supportive yoga community and overwhelmed by my current challenges. It reconnected me and gave me strength to carry on. I cannot adequately express my thanks.

They always seemed to be just what one needed to hear at the right time. Thank you for putting his talk on the internet.
God Bless,

Once again Swami says with eloquence what so many of us believe. I agree it was past due for all of us to move closer to our spirits: listening to our gurus speaking to our hearts. As the saying goes,"Without the rain, we would never see a rainbow". All is very well, just as it is supposed to be.

I thank you for the reality of "Death". I see this is the most feared, misunderstood part of this journey of the soul in society. I have been deeply gracious for the understanding of this part of our journey....There is only a continuation.
I am in hopes of more fluently conveying this to others but I understand that it is the listener who through their own free will and spiritual growth chooses to know the truth and therefore set their selves free of the fear and finality which is an illusion....
Thank you again

What a beautiful sharing and what an inspiration to all of us! The loss of a child, regardless of age, must be one of the greatest sorrows life can bring to our experience. Hridaya, reassures us that the presence of God is even more tangible during the experiences of life that we are most afraid of. Therefore, be not afraid, and know that God is always with you. Thank you, Hridaya!

Hridaya, reassures us that the presence of God is even more tangible during the experiences of life that we are most afraid of. Therefore, be not afraid, and know that God is always with you. Thank you, Hridaya!

Dear Hridaya:

I am deeply touched by your generosity in writing this article. Grief, as you say, is a universal journey. Your courage and honesty are rays of light illuminating this path for all who follow. You willingness to accept and move forward into Spirit is a blessing also for Johnny, giving him the freedom also to move on. A final gift from a loving Mother.

love,
asha

Thank you. I have never seen this insight of the current events! Certainly a very encouraging view, much like the yin-yang problem/opportunity aphorism. It is easy to agree with the aphorisms but so much harder to apply them in our daily lives. Thank you again, Swamiji!

I practice Yoga purely for the purpose of reducing stress and it really works. Yoga keeps both of my mind and body relax.

I have been deeply touched by your story and your gift to us all in telling this story. I have 2 sons and know that circumstances could prevail, out of the blue, to bring about unknown joy or unknown tragedy.
Your honesty and deep spirtitual practice are inspiring. May your son's love and energy continue to inspire you and all those you connect with.

Thank you for the article, Catherine. Every time I read this, I realize on ever deeper levels the important role Yogananda played as William the Conqueror. Your faithful research and perseverance in trying to understand the bigger picture of this historical time is a help to us all.
