He was a great physician and alchemist of his time who pioneered the use of chemicals and minerals for medicine. He advocated the hermetic ideas of “As above, so below” which portrayed a correspondence between man as the “microcosm” and the universe as the “macrocosm”. This was contrary to the prevailing religious view that the creator was separate from creation. Paracelsus advocated using alchemy, not to make gold, but to create medicines for healing. He also advanced the principles of magnetism and its use for healing.
